For us, the key to success in setting up manufacturing processes is flexibility. Full automation is the outlook, but not usually the start of production. Particularly in the case of newly developed medical products where sales volumes are still uncertain, we often recommend starting with partially automated processes and providing for various expansion stages of automation, depending on the scaling of the quantities. Our plastic injection molding is already largely fully automated, including removal by robots. For assembly and logistics processes, on the other hand, partial automation is often recommended initially.

Requirements for Automation

Efficient automation of production depends on meeting several key process requirements. It involves ensuring that process steps are repeatable and rule-based, utilizing if-then functions and standardized inputs. Stability is crucial, with processes ideally requiring minimal modifications and being unaffected by external factors as much as possible.

Full automation of molding and part handling is ideal for high-volume production. In one of RKT’s high-volume lines, six dedicated injection molding machines each use a 128-cavity mold, with fully automated part handling. Parts are extracted using a linear handling system and placed directly onto a conveyor belt, then loaded into large poly bags. Parts are sorted and inspected automatically at scheduled intervals to ensure quality.

Most medical devices require automation to maintain hygiene standards, often needing clean-room environments to prevent contamination by particles or germs from production personnel.

Flexible Production Planning Tailored to Your Needs

RKT provides production planning tailored to your specific needs. Rather than rushing into automation, we prioritize flexible approaches to avoid excessive costs from design changes and process adjustments as the product undergoes final development.
